Remember From Whence you have Fallen
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Are you still with your first love – from His point of view?
Primary Text: Revelations 2v1-5
“TO THE angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Ephesus write: These are the words of Him Who holds the seven stars [which are the messengers of the seven churches] in His right hand, Who goes about among the seven golden lampstands [which are the seven churches]: I know your industry and activities, laborious toil and trouble, and your patient endurance, and how you cannot tolerate wicked [men] and have tested and critically appraised those who call [themselves] apostles (special messengers of Christ) and yet are not, and have found them to be imposters and liars. I know you are enduring patiently and are bearing up for My name’s sake, and you have not fainted or become exhausted or grown weary. But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love]. Remember then from what heights you have fallen. Repent (change the inner man to meet God’s will) and do the works you did previously [when first you knew the Lord], or else I will visit you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you change your mind and repent.” Revelations 2v1-5 (KJV)
“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven gold lampstands: “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for Me without quitting. “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to Me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.” Revelations 2v1-5 (NLT)
It is possible to do works in the name of Jesus, but not love Him. Not relate with Him … Even as the year draws to an end, now might be a good time for us to examine ourselves, our works from when we first gave our lives to Christ, and now. Have you left your first love? You might have the appearance of being a Christian – hating evil, working hard, patiently enduring, but God also requires our love.
Supplementary Texts
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13v1-3 (NIV © 2010)
Prayer
Father, I thank You for You, for Your Word. I repent of anyway I may have left my first love. Please Lord, let my love for You increase in Jesus name, amen. And if I am ever drifting away from You, Lord please draw me close in Jesus name, amen.
