A Cheerful Giver
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Happy Monday and Happy Valentines day. “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1v9 (NIV). Do you know the type of giver God loves?
Primary Text:
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9v7 (KJV)
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9v7 (NIV)
“You must each decide in your heart how much to give, And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9v7 (NLT)
“Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].” 2 Corinthians 9v7 (AMP)
God loves a cheerful giver. Now, imagine you can see the heart of a person, or know what they are actually thinking when they are going to give you something. If you see the person is actually delighted to give you, you are happy to accept it. But if you see the person grumbling, and murmuring, and complaining before they give it to you, in a sense, you really would not want any part of that. You can say “its not by force” that the person should give it to you. But the irony of the matter is that God sees our hearts, and sees the process we go to up to the point when we give – to Him, His work, people e.t.c. So we see in 2 Corinthians 9v7 that you are not to give reluctantly, or under compulsion… But you should give as you have decided in your heart. That means perhaps it is good to take some time to think about it, because God loves a person who gives cheerfully. So next time you are giving, and giving cheerfully, you can think, God loves this.
Supplementary Text
“AND THE Lord said to Moses, Speak to the Israelites, that they take for Me an offering. From every man who gives it willingly and ungrudgingly with his heart you shall take My offering.” Exodus 25v1-2
“Don’t eat with people who are stingy; don’t desire their delicacies. They are always thinking about how much it costs. “Eat and drink,” they say, but they don’t mean it. You will throw up what little you’ve eaten, and your compliments will be wasted.” Proverbs 23v6-8 (NLT)
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16v7 (KJV)
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word. Father, grant me the grace to give, to be a willing and a cheerful giver. To know that You are my source o God in Jesus name, amen.
