The Brethren!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text: Luke 22:31-32
“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” Luke 22v31-32 (KJV)
“Simon, stay on your toes. Satan has tried his best to separate all of you from Me, like chaff from wheat. Simon, I’ve prayed for you in particular that you not give in or give out. When you have come through the time of testing, turn to your companions and give them a fresh start.” Luke 22v31 (MSG)
“Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God], that he might sift [all of] you like grain, But I have prayed especially for you [Peter], that your [own] faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren.” Luke 22v31-32 (AMP)
Jesus prayed for Simon that his faith does not fail, however He also told him that when he has been converted, when he has gone through that period of testing, he should strengthen his brethren. We see in 2 Corinthians 1v3-7 how God comforts us that we may also comfort others. There are certain sufferings that the body of Christ faces, no matter who we are, and where we are on the surface of the earth. We need to encourage one another to keep the faith, and hold on strong, and trust in the promises and goodness of the Lord.
Supplementary Texts
“Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.” 1 Peter 5v9 (NLT)
“Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset -- rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.” 1 Peter 5v9 (AMP)
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with His comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.” 2 Corinthians 1v3-7 (NLT)
“[Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God. But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [by the fraudulence, the stratagem, the trickery which the delusive glamour of his sin may play on him].” Hebrews 2v13 (AMP)
Prayer
Father, I thank You so much for Your Word. Father, I pray for believers all over the world, that You would strengthen us. Please give us words to encourage one another. Help us to be sensitive to the needs around us, to those of Your children in the sheepfold, and those yet to come to the knowledge of You. Thank You Eternal Rock of Ages. In Jesus mighty name we pray, amen.
