Words

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His mercies and His amazing love for us.

Primary Text: Proverbs 17:27
“He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.” Proverbs 17v27 (KJV)

“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.” Proverbs 17v27 (NIV)

“A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.” Proverbs 17:27 (NLT)

“He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding has a cool spirit.” Proverbs 17v27 (AMP)

“The one who knows much says little; an understanding person remains calm.” Proverbs 17v27 (MSG)

“The wise say very little, and those with understanding stay calm.” Proverbs 17v27 (NCV)

Sometimes it is easy to want to show off all that we know. Words are important. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18v21). What are you saying today? Is it constructive? It’s easy to get into the quick banter, back and forth that we hear all around us; to want to contribute to the discussions and conversations, to want to be seen as smart. But a truly wise person says very little, and those with understanding stay calm. Keep your cool. Don’t let people get under your skin. Your words are important, they can be a blessing and give grace to the hearers. The Lord can give you the word for those who are weary, to comfort them.

Supplementary Texts
“My dear brothers and sisters, always be willing to listen and slow to speak. Do not become angry easily, because anger will not help you live the right kind of life God wants.” James 1v19-20 (NCV)

“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.” Ephesians 4v29 (AMP)

“The Sovereign LORD has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will. The Sovereign LORD has spoken to me, and I have listened. I have not rebelled or turned away.” Isaiah 30v4-5 (NLT)

“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” Psalm 141v3 (KJV)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word today. We thank You for the importance of words and having a calm spirit. Father we ask this day for the ornament of a meek and a quiet spirit which in Your sight is of great price. We pray that You will set a watch before our mouth and keep the door of our lips. We pray You give us words of wisdom so that we know how to comfort the weary. We pray You waken us up morning by morning and open our understanding to Your will. Help us to listen to You and not rebel or turn away. We ask for a cleansing of our lips and tongues today and forgiveness for worthless words spoken in time past. We pray above all that Your name be glorified in our lives and that when You come back we will not be found wanting. We pray all this in Jesus name, amen.
