On Guard

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His faithfulness and His Word.

Primary Text: 1 Corinthians 16:13
“Watch ye,...” 1 Corinthians 16v13 (KJV)

“Be alert and on your guard;… 1 Corinthians 16v13 (AMP)

“Be on guard….” 1 Corinthians 16v13 (NLT)

As believers, we have to be on our guard. Remember, “For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere (Ephesians 6v12, AMP). Be sensitive to the Spirit. Jesus said to Peter, James and John, watch and pray lest ye fall into temptation. When the wall of Jerusalem was being built back in the time of Nehemiah, there were those who were not happy about it and sought to hinder it. Because of this, Nehemiah and the others prayed and set a watch against them. Standing watch and prayer however go hand in hand. You are alert, but you are strengthened and fight through prayer. We also watch, not to be caught unawares when the Lord comes.

Supplementary Text
“But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.” Nehemiah 4v7-9 (KJV)

“I said to them, “Do not leave the gates open during the hottest part of the day. And even while the gatekeepers are on duty, have them shut and bar the doors. Appoint the residents of Jerusalem to act as guards, everyone on a regular watch. Some will serve at sentry posts and some in front of their own homes.” Nehemiah 7v3 (NLT)

“The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.” Psalm 37v32

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.” Matthew 24v42-43 (KJV)

“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26v41

“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127v1

“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind). Be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” 1 Peter 5v7&8 (AMP)

Note: Stand guard, be alert, do not be caught unawares!
