Elders (3)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in
the Lord.
Primary Text
“Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God
that is [your responsibility], not by coercion or constraint, but willingly; not dishonorably motivated by the
advantages and profits [belonging to
the office], but eagerly and
cheerfully;” 1 Peter 5v2(AMP)
Paul also exhorts the elders (the spiritual leaders, and
pastors) about the attitude by which they should watch over, and tend the flock
of God in their care. He says, do it willingly. Colossians 3v22-25 (MSG)
actually says “Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t
just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for
your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come
into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re
serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held
responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.” What is your
attitude towards your work here on earth, and the boss placed over you?
Remember who your real Master is. He is someone who is Omnipresent (present
even when your boss isn’t); Omnipotent (all-powerful, able to promote or
demote); Omniscient (all-knowing, and can see the thoughts and attitudes of
your heart); and the One who gives the reward of the inheritance. Now, if the
Lord would have us work heartily in the things we are directed to do by our
earthly masters, as doing this work as unto Him, elders, as well as all
children of God should have this same attitude towards the work they are given within
the body of Christ. Do it willingly – as God would have you do!
Supplementary Text
“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care,
watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God
wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;” 1 Peter 5v2
(NIV)
Prayer
Heavenly Father we thank You so much for Your Word. Father, we
commit our lives into Your hands. We pray that we will ever be conscious that
our real Master is the Lord Jesus, and would do every work given to us heartily
and diligently, as unto Him. We pray particularly for the elders in the body of
Christ, that You will help them to do their work cheerfully, in Jesus name,
amen.
