Elders (6) – The Crown
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope
well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“I warn and counsel the elders among you (the pastors and spiritual guides
of the church) as a fellow elder and as an eyewitness [called to testify] of
the sufferings of Christ, as well as a sharer in the glory (the honor and
splendor) that is to be revealed (disclosed, unfolded): Tend (nurture, guard,
guide, and fold) the flock of God that is [your responsibility], not by
coercion or constraint, but
willingly; not dishonorably motivated by the advantages and profits [belonging to the office], but eagerly and cheerfully; Not domineering [as
arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons] over those in your charge, but
being examples (patterns and models of Christian living) to the flock (the
congregation). And [then] when the Chief Shepherd is revealed, you will win the
conqueror’s crown of glory.” 1 Peter 5v1-4 (AMP)
One day the Chief Shepherd, the Good
Shepherd, who laid down His life for the sheep is going to appear. To the
elders, Paul is exhorting, to tend the sheep in their care, to have the right
motives and attitudes, and that when the Chief Shepherd appears, they “will
receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.” (1 Peter 5v4, NIV).
Beloved of God, are you living your life in such a way that when He that gave
His life for you should come, you will be delighted at His coming, or you would
wish the ground would swallow you up at that moment? Perhaps you are not an
elder, but you have talents you have buried or are not handling something else
placed in your care whether your children, spouse, job e.t.c. in a way that
would please God…
Supplementary Text
“Moreover it is required in stewards,
that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4v2 (KJV)
Prayer
Heavenly Father we thank You so much for
Your Word. Lord, we know that it is not him who approves himself that is
approved, but him who You approve. We pray that You will show us every area
where we have not been faithful, and that You will help us to be faithful in
all that we do, and have been placed in our care, in Jesus name, amen.
