The unimportance of things (2)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“God
chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used
them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” 1 Corinthians
1v28 (NLT)
What
are the things you consider important? Who do you put your trust in? Are you
always seeking for the assistance or approval of man? Is that what is
considered most important for you? Do you find that you always worry and think
you have to worry? Are you of the “tit for tat” school, whereby anyone who
offends you must pay dearly for it? What does the Lord say about these issues?
Trust: “It is better to trust and take refuge
in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust and take
refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” Psalm 118v8-9 (AMP).
The approval of man: ““Don’t be afraid of those who want to
kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy
both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10v28 (NLT).
Life: “Anyone who loves his life loses it, but
anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever
has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but
despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.]” John 12v25 (AMP)
Enemies: ““You have heard that it was said, ‘Love
your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray
for those who persecute you, that you may children of your Father in heaven. He
causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and unrighteous.” Matthew 5v43-45 (NIV)
How to find rest: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are
heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and
relieve and refresh your souls.] Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I
am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief
and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. For
My yoke is wholesome (useful, good – not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but
comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be
borne.” Matthew 11v28-30 (AMP)
Supplementary Text
“This
is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong
boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who
boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me, that I am
the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in
these I delight,” declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 9v23-24 (NIV)
Prayer
Our
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word. Father, we pray that we will not
copy the behavior and customs of this world, but will let God transform us into
a new person by changing the way we think. Then we will learn to know God’s
will for us, which is good and pleasing and perfect, in Jesus name, amen.
