Life-Giving Words (1)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Death
and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the
fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18v21 (KJV)
The
words that we speak are very important. They can either bring forth life or
bring forth death. Even from a young age, our words begin to count. Psalm 8v2 (NIV)
says “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a
stronghold against Your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.” The words
that we speak can be used to change our environment. Hebrews 11v3 (KJV) says “Through
faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that
things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” God works in
this way. He brought to birth the earth through what He spoke. He also speaks
what He expects to see, that is why for example we see that the birth of Jesus
was foretold a long time ago. Romans 4v17 (KJV) says “… even God, who
quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they
were.” Even as we speak, we pray, we declare, though we may not see the
immediate manifestations, the words have been put into play. We see for example
people who pray a lot for their children, and their children grow up blessed –
because they have prayed that for them over the years. What words are you
speaking today? Remember that the Bible reminds us too that for every idle and
non-operative word we speak, we will give account on the day of judgment (Matthew
12v36).
Supplementary Text
“The
tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its
fruit.” Proverbs 18v21 (NIV)
“Those
who love to talk will suffer the consequences. Men have died for saying the
wrong thing.” Proverbs 18v21 (TLB)
“Death
and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat
the fruit of it [for death or life].” Proverbs 18v21 (AMPC)
“Words
kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit – you choose.” Proverbs
18v21 (MSG)
Prayer
Father,
we thank You for the power You have given to words. We ask O Lord for Your
mercy and forgiveness for words that we have spoken that have been idle and
death causing. Forgive us O Lord. We pray that You will help us that our words
will always be life giving in Jesus name, amen.
