Keeping His Commandments

Primary Text

“And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments).” 1 John 2v3 (KJV)

One way in which we know that we know God is that we keep His commandments. “Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. But he who keeps (treasures) His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity). By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are in Him:” 1 John 2v4-5 (AMP). You are a liar if you say you know God yet do not keep His commandments; for if you truly love the Lord, you will seek to please Him. “Loving God means doing what He tells us to do, and really, that isn’t hard at all; for every child of God can obey Him, defeating sin and evil pleasure by trusting Christ to help him.” 1 John 5v3-4 (TLB).

“and receive from Him anything we ask, because we keep His commands and do what pleases Him. And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.” 1 John 3v22-24 (NIV)

Prayer

Father we thank You for Your Word. We thank You for answering our prayers because we keep Your commands and do that which pleases You. We thank You because we make our home in You and You in us because we keep Your commands. The grace to obey You continually and fully, please keep giving to us. We ask all this in Jesus name, amen.
