Self-control (2)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control,” 2 Peter 1v6 (AMP)

We are encouraged that in addition to the promises and faith we have, we should employ every effort in developing virtue, and knowledge, and self-control. Looking through Scripture we see self-control being mentioned in different situations and people:

Husbands and wives: “Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” 1 Corinthians 7v5 (NIV)

Unmarried: “But if they have not self-control (restraint of their passions), they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame [with passion and tortured continually with ungratified desire].” 1 Corinthians 7v9 (AMP)

Women: “Nevertheless [the sentence put upon women of pain in motherhood does not hinder their souls’ salvation, and] they will be saved [eternally] if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, [saved indeed] through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine child.” 1 Timothy 2v15 (AMP)

Elders: “So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.” 1 Timothy 3v2 (NLT)

Wives of deacons: “In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do.” 1 Timothy 3v11 (NLT)

Older men: “Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.” Titus 2v2 (NLT)

Supplementary Text
‘[A Call to Holy Living] So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.” 1 Peter 1v13 (NLT)

Prayer
Our heavenly Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. Father, I thank You because You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control, and I accept that and say amen to it, in Jesus name, amen.
