The day of the Lord!

Hello everyone,

How are you doing today? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” 2 Peter 3v10 (KJV)

One thing is certain – the day of the Lord is coming. When is it coming? We really don’t know, for it will come as a thief in the night, so basically it’s not going to be announced. It’s going to be unexpected. 1 Thessalonians 5v6-10 (AMP) therefore encourages us that “Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night. But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or are dead [at Christ’s appearing], we might live together with Him and share His life.” Amen.

Supplementary Text
“I don’t think friends, that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen. You know as well as I that the day of the Master’s coming can’t be posted on our calendars. He won’t call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would. About the time everybody’s walking around complacently, congratulating each other – “We’ve sure got it made! Now we can take it easy!” – suddenly everything will fall apart. It’s going to come as suddenly and inescapably as birth pangs to a pregnant woman. But friends, you’re not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You’re sons of Light, Daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand.” 1 Thessalonians 5v1-5 (MSG)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. Father, we know that the day of the Lord is coming. We thank You for You have not called us to condemn us, or incur Your wrath, but that we might obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. We put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of salvation. We pray that You will send labourers into Your harvest, for the harvest indeed is ripe but the labourers are few, and we know that You do not want any to perish, but that all should come to repentance. We love and adore You o God, and look expectantly for the coming of our Lord, saying, come Lord Jesus come, in Jesus name, amen.
