The Gospel Truth!
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“For
I passed on to you first of all what I also had received, that Christ (the
Messiah, the Anointed One) died for our sins in accordance with what the
Scriptures [foretold],” 1 Corinthians 15v3 (AMP)
In
the criminal court, when an offense is committed, the criminal usually pays for
it with some sort of punishment. Because we have sinned as humans, and come
short of the glorious standard of God, a price needs to be paid for our sins. Romans
3v23-25 (NLT) says “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s
glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are
righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty
of our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made
right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His
blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when He held back and did
not punish those who sinned in times past.” In the olden days, the blood of
goats and bulls were used for the atonement of sin, because blood was needed
for the atonement of sin. Hebrews 9v22 (NLT) says “In fact, according to the
law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the
shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” Jesus however was the perfect sacrifice for us.
Supplementary Text
“The
old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good
things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that
system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able
to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. If they could have
provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the
worshippers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of
guilt would disappeared. But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them
of their sins year after year. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls
and goats to take away sins. That is why, when Christ came into the world, He
said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have
given Me a body to offer. You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other
offerings for sin. Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do Your will, O God – as
is written about Me in the Scriptures.’” First, Christ said, “You did not want
animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings for sin, nor were You
pleased with them” (though they are required by the law of Moses). Then He
said, “Look, I have come to do Your will.” He cancels the first covenant in
order to put the second into effect. For God’s will was for us to be made holy
by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.” Hebrews 1-10
(NLT)
Prayer
Lord
Jesus, thank You for the sacrifice You made for my sins.
