The Gift of Divers Kinds of Tongues (2)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Happy new
month. May the month of November be blessed. May you experience and feel the
presence of the Holy Spirit everyday, and may the grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you in
Jesus name, amen.
Primary Text
“
… to another divers kinds of tongues; …” 1 Corinthians 12v10 (KJV)
The
gift of divers kinds of tongues is a vocal gift, and it implies speaking in a
tongue (language) that the speaker doesn’t understand … unless the speaker also
has the gift of the interpretation of tongues. Although our human understanding
does not comprehend these tongues, we are speaking to God when we pray in such
a manner (1 Corinthians 14v2). The Spirit is the One who gives utterance for
speaking in tongues. Now, sometimes the Holy Spirit may give the gift of
tongues in such a way that it might be in the language of a listener as we see
on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2v1-6 (KJV) saying “And when the day of Pentecost
was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there
came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like
as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the
Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them
utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every
nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came
together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his
own language.” But most of the time, those around you will also be unable to
understand the tongues being spoken, unless there is one who can interpret.
That’s why Paul said “Nevertheless, in public worship, I would rather say five
words with my understanding and intelligently in order to instruct others, than
ten thousand words in a [strange] tongue (language). Still, it is indeed a gift
to be coveted. I have found that at times while I am limited in how long I can
pray in my own understanding, I can pray for a longer period of time by praying
in tongues.
Supplementary Text
“I
thank God that I speak in [strange] tongues (languages) more than any of you or
all of you put together;” 1 Corinthians 14v18 (AMP)
Prayer
If
you do not already have this gift, you can pray for it.
