Faith in God – Sincere Faith
Dearly
beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. In 2 Timothy 1v5
(AMPC), Paul writes to Timothy that “I am calling up memories of your sincere
and unqualified faith (the leaning of your entire personality on God in Christ
in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), [a faith]
that first lived permanently in [the heart of] your grandmother Lois and your
mother Eunice and now, I am [fully] persuaded, [dwells] in you also].”
Timothy’s faith is here defined
as sincere. Some other translations refer to it as unfeigned faith, honest
faith, and genuine faith. God will have us have a sincere faith in Him – one
that is honest and genuine. There are certain things that can contribute to one
having an insincere faith in God. For example some teachings and conversations
might not help us have a sincere faith in God. 1 Timothy 1v3-5 (NLT) says “When I left for Macedonia, I
urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to
the truth. Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths
and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless
speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God. The
purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that
comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.” May
we continue to have a sincere faith in God in Jesus name, amen.
Prayer
Father we thank You for Your
mercy and Your grace. We love You and trust in You. Search us o God and know
our hearts, try us and know our anxious thoughts, see if there is any iota of
deceit in our walk with You and our faith in You, expose and cleanse us from
this o God. Help us to walk honestly and sincerely with You in Jesus name,
amen.
