Praying and Thanking
Dearly
beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. 1 Thessalonians
5v17-18 (AMPC) exhorts us to “Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]; Thank
[God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and
give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus
[the Revealer and Mediator of that will]. I find it interesting that these two
instructions are placed side by side. In essence, do not cease communicating
with God in prayer, inviting Him and involving Him in every circumstance, and
in all this, have a thankful attitude, know that all is well.
This
verse brings to bear a different piece of scripture which says “Do not fret or
have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything,
by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make
your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state
of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from
God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that
peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your
hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4v6-7, AMPC). Beloved, don’t worry
– pray. Don’t be discouraged – give thanks; and do this all without ceasing.
Synonyms for cease include stop, finish, end, terminate, and conclude. Never
stop involving God in every circumstance and in all things – and enjoy the
peace that will come from there.
Prayer
Our Father
and our God, we thank You for Your awesome Lordship, support and guidance. We
thank You because nothing takes You by surprise. You rule in the affairs of
men, and You help we Your children. We determine to pray without ceasing and to
give thanks always. We ask for Your grace to see this determination through. We
love You Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in Jesus name, amen.
