January 13, 2010 - 2 Marys (1)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you in Jesus name, amen. The Bible tells us of a time when Jesus was received into the house of a certain woman called Martha.

“And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard His word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to Him, and said, Lord, dost Thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chose that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10v39-42

Martha did well, she received Jesus into her house, but Mary took advantage of what it meant to have Jesus inside one’s house. Martha was cumbered (hindered, hampered, overloaded, burdened, inconvenienced, troubled) by much serving. But Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, and heard His Word. Now Martha’s much worrying translated into her thinking that there was an iota of unfairness in all of this in that she is serving and Mary is sitting. Afterall, she wanted to serve the Master. And then Jesus replied her.

Why have you invited Jesus in? Now that He is in your life, are you actually submitting to Him, and hearing His Word? Yes, Martha wanted to serve Him, but she became cumbered and being careful and troubled about many things. This would hinder her from really hearing Him. I can envision from Mary’s position, even when Jesus sent her on an errand, she would hear properly what He wanted and be able to fulfill it to His satisfaction. Are you hearing the Word of the Lord?

Have a very blessed day.
