Enlightened understanding

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,” Ephesians 1v17-18 (KJV)

What does it really mean to be a Christian and to be Christ-like? What does the Lord weigh and count as true? What matters to our Lord and our Saviour Jesus Christ? Oh, that the eyes of our understanding may be enlightened that we will truly come to know and understand the hope of our calling. Why did God save us? What would He have us do on earth? Our Lord Jesus said “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.” What plan does He have for your life, as He explicitly said in Ephesians 2v10 (AMP) that “For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” O that the eyes of our understanding might be enlightened, that we may know what is the hope of His calling. Let us begin to ask of the Lord and call upon Him for a revelation of what He would have us do both collectively as a body of Christ and for our individual assignments. Jeremiah 33v3 (AMP) says “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).” We thank God that He has given us His Word which 2 Timothy 3v16-17 (NIV) says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” We also have the Spirit of God who is to guide us into all the truth (John 16v13).

Prayer

Father, we thank You for Your call upon our lives. No one comes to the Lord Jesus unless You draw them and we thank You for drawing us unto Yourself. We pray that You will indeed flood our hearts with light that we may see the future You have called us to share with You and be clear on what You would have us to do in Jesus name, amen.
