Kings and Priests (2)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Revelations 1v6 (KJV)

Our Lord Jesus Christ has made us priests unto our God. 1 Peter 2v9 (TLB) says “But you are not like that, for you have been chosen by God himself—you are priests of the King, you are holy and pure, you are God’s very own—all this so that you may show to others how God called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” We will remember in the Old Testament that the Levites were the priests – they were born to be priests, and thus became priests on account of the family they were born into. Likewise under the New Testament, those who become children of God through their belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and the finished work on the Cross, also become priests of God. John 1v12 (AMP) saying “But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name–”. As members of His body, Jesus however made us priests to take the part of interceding and prevailing on behalf of men – an awesome responsibility indeed. However, priesthood requires consecration and separation. The priests under the Old Testament were not just born priests but were consecrated with blood, and were not permitted to do certain things e.g. stay close to dead bodies. Likewise with we believers – we are to be holy and set apart for God. 1 Corinthians 6v19-20 (AMP) says “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.”

Prayer
Father, we thank You for the privilege of being Your priests. We pray that we will glorify You even in this capacity in Jesus name, amen. Please grant us the grace to be true priests in Jesus name, amen. And from 1 Thessalonians 5v23 we pray God of peace that You will Yourself make us completely holy and may our spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in Jesus name, amen.
