The Gift of the Working of Miracles
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“To
another the working of miracles; …” 1 Corinthians 12v10 (KJV)
“He
gives one person the power to perform miracles, …” 1 Corinthians 12v10 (NLT)
We
know our God is a God who performed, performs and will continue to perform
miracles. However, the Holy Spirit also gives to people the power to perform
miracles. We see for example Moses being a vessel to perform several miracles
in the land of Egypt, Peter with Ananias and Sapphira, and our Lord Jesus
performed several miracles. There are several reasons why God can give this
gift, as a book I am reading noted:
1. To
deliver His children from tight corners.
Elijah
had been sent by God to a widow in Zarephath who was to feed him during the
time of famine. 1 Kings 17v8-16 (NLT) says “Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go
and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed
a widow there to feed you.” So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates
of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you
please bring me a little water in a cup?” As she was going to get it, he called
to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.” But she said, “I swear by the LORD
your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have
only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom
of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then
my son and I will die.” But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and
do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s
left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD,
the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your
containers until the time when the LORD sends rain and the crops grow again!”
So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat
for many days. There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the
containers, just as the LORD had promised through Elijah.” During a time of famine
and shortage, when rain had stopped and crops ceased to grow, God didn’t have
His servant suffer and run from door to door looking for food. He miraculously
provided from a handful of flour and a little cooking oil. Beloved, God has not
changed. Your bank account might be little, and you might have but a handful of
flour and a little cooking oil, but His Word says “I have been young, and now
am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread”
(Psalm 37v25, KJV). The children of Israel were also caught between the
Egyptians and the Red Sea, and God miraculously saved them. Beloved, are you in
some sort of trouble and don’t know how you will get out of it? Look to God.
God miraculously saved the three Hebrew children out of the fiery furnace they
were thrown into (Daniel 3), and Daniel from being eaten by the lions (Daniel
6). Remember, God can perform miracles in anyway He chooses and at any point in
the process. Be still and trust in Him. Don’t look at the physical and try to
reason how He would do it. Just know that He is faithful, and will see you
through.
Supplementary Text
“And
Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go
back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the
waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea
upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand,
and on their left.” Exodus 14v21-22 (KJV)
