The Gift of the Working of Miracles (2)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“To another the working of miracles; …” 1 Corinthians 12v10 (KJV)

“He gives one person the power to perform miracles, …” 1 Corinthians 12v10 (NLT)

Our God is a miracle working God, He can suspend human and natural laws to bring about His purposes. Through the Holy Spirit, God enables people to perform miracles, one reason being to deliver His children from tight corners. For example, He miraculously saved the Israelites from being killed by Pharaoh by parting the Red Sea for them to pass on dry land, and letting the Red Sea drown the horsemen and chariots of Pharaoh (Exodus 14). We see in the case of Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 4v8-37), where God raised up children through them. Elijah had been sent by God to a widow in Zarephath who was to feed him during the time of famine. However, at a point the child of the widow died. 1 Kings 17v17-24 (NLT) says “Some time later the woman’s son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally he died. Then she said to Elijah, “O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?” But Elijah replied, “Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed. Then Elijah cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me causing her son to die?” And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, please let this child’s life return to him.” The LORD heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived! Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. “Look!” he said. “Your son is alive!” Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the LORD truly speaks through you.” Elijah was a man of God, and yet in the home he was staying a tragedy arose. The widow immediately turned to him almost accusing him that why have you done this. Elijah turned to God, God why did you permit this to happen? Now we know that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10v34), but in this situation He heeded the voice of His servant and brought the son back to life. Because of this, the woman acknowledged, now I know you are truly a man of God. God used a miracle to restore the joy of the woman, but also to save His servant out of a tight corner.
