The Gifts of Healing

“To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;” 1 Corinthians 12v9 (KJV)

“To another [wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary powers of healing by the one Spirit;” 1 Corinthians 12v9 (AMP)

Paul in writing to the church in Corinth, said he did not want them to be unaware of the gifts that the Spirit gives, and we should not as well. In fact the gifts are for the profiting of the church and can be coveted (1 Corinthians 12v31). In addition to gifts of the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, the discerning of spirits, faith, the Holy Spirit also gives the gifts of healing. The gifts of healing “is supernatural power to heal all manner of sickness without human aid or medicine” (Dakes Concordance). Now this does not mean that believers who do not have these gifts cannot heal, because included in the signs that Jesus has said will follow those who believe is that they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover (Mark 16v18). The same way that it doesn’t mean that without the gift of faith, word of wisdom, and word of knowledge, one cannot have faith or wisdom or knowledge.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all … A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other… It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have…. Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.” 1 Corinthians 12v4, 7, 11, 29-31 (NLT)

Prayer

Do you want the gift of healing? Why don’t you pray for it … Make sure you have pure motives for it, and ask as well for the grace to use it only for the glory of God.
