The Discerning of spirits (2)

Primary Text

“… to another discerning of spirits; …” 1 Corinthians 9v10 (KJV)

“… to another the ability to discern and distinguish between [the utterances of true] spirits [and false ones], …” 1 Corinthians 9v10 (AMP)

Even as we have the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, our Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Standby, Counselor, Helper, and Teacher, there are also other spirits in the world. Some of those mentioned in the Bible include:

Lying spirit: “And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the LORD said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.” 2 Chronicles 18v21 (KJV)

Unclean/impure spirit: ““When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”” Luke 11v24-26 (NIV)

Spirit of infirmity: “And there was a woman there who for eighteen years had had an infirmity caused by a spirit (a demon of sickness). She was bent completely forward and utterly unable to straighten herself up or to look upward.” Luke 13v11 (AMP)

Spirit of divination: “As we were on our way to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination [claiming to foretell future events and to discover hidden knowledge], and she brought her owners much gain by her fortunetelling.” Acts 16v16 (AMP)

Evil spirits: “When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.” Acts 9v12 (NLT)

Deceiving/seducing spirits: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” 1 Timothy 4v1 (KJV)

Prayer

Our heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Spirit. We thank You for the Spirit of truth who is in us and with us. We pray for the ability for discerning of spirits, that we may know what is true and what is false, what is of You and what is of the devil in Jesus name, amen.
