Hanging out
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“He
that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be
destroyed.” Proverbs 13v20 (KJV)
“Become
wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to
pieces.” Proverbs 13v20 (MSG)
Child
of God, who are your companions? Who do you walk with? I watched a movie the
other day about a married man with two children. He began hanging out with
friends that encouraged him to have extra-marital affairs and succumbed to
their encouragement. But we see this happen in real life as well. The advice to
watch who your companions are is therefore applicable not only to the young,
but to the old as well. If you keep company with fools, you shall be destroyed.
But if you keep company with those who are wise, you shall yourself become
wise. 1 Kings 12 narrates the story of King Rehoboam who forsook the counsel of
elders who had served his father Solomon and instead yielded to that of the
young men he grew up with. Consequently, he lost control over all Israel except
Judah. 1 Corinthians 15v33 (AMP) says “Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil
companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and
morals and character.” The Spirit of the living God is with and in believers. He
is our Friend. Let us learn to fellowship with Him, talk things over with Him, and
be conscious of His presence.
Supplementary Text
“However,
I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient,
advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the
Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby)
will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will
send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” John 16v7 (AMP)
Prayer
Spirit
of the living God, I desire to be more intimate with you.
