The Accusers
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. A message I
heard highlighted that a key to making the most of 2014 was accepting
responsibility for one’s life.
Primary Text
“Pay
careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a
job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we
are each responsible for our own conduct.” Galatians 6v4-5 (NLT)
However,
there exist 3 types of people: accusers, excusers and choosers. Accusers are
those who cast blame on everyone and everything else but themselves for the
situation they are in. They will not take responsibility for their actions, but
will accuse their background, parents, spouse, children, friends, the economy,
the school they went to… They even blame God – why didn’t God point out this
situation to me? Why didn’t He warn me about this? They refuse to turn the
spotlight on themselves and see where they might have made the mistake. We see
Adam blaming Eve, and even holding God as responsible because He gave her to
him for his sin. And Eve blamed the serpent (Genesis 3v12&13). Granted,
there are situations in our lives that we cannot control, and things that
happen because of others. But what is your reaction to it? You might not be
able to control the actions of others, but you can control yours.
Supplementary Text
“A
man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences
to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And as he adapts his
mind to that regulating factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his
condition, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts; ceases to kick
against circumstances, but begins to use them as aids to his more rapid
progress, and as a means of discovering the hidden powers and possibilities
within himself.” (Allen, 2005, p. 10).
Prayer
Father,
please help me not to be an accuser, but to turn the search light on myself and
accept responsibility for my actions in Jesus name, amen.
