Friendship with God (3)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“You
are like an unfaithful wife who loves her husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize
that making friends with God’s enemies – the evil pleasures of this world –
makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy the
evil pleasure of the unsaved world, you cannot also be a friend of God.” James
4v4 (TLB)
“Do
you think the Scriptures mean nothing? The Scriptures say, “The Spirit God made
to live in us wants us only for Himself.” James 4v5 (ERV)
Beloved,
are you a friend of God or a friend of the world? The verses above shows that
we cannot be both. It shows that friendship with the world is like having an
adulterous relationship; an adulterer has a husband or wife but would keep
going out to play and have relationships with someone else. Beloved are you
true to the Lord and Him alone? Have you been wavering between your love for
God and the things of the world: the lust of the flesh; the lust of the eyes;
and the pride of life. If you repent, we have a merciful God who would forgive
and draw you back and help you to live a life that pleases Him. James 4v6-10
(AMP) says “But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to
meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets
Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the
lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). So be subject to God. Resist
the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. Come close to
God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your
soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with
divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery]. [As you
draw near to God] be deeply penitent and grieve, even weep [over your
disloyalty]. Let your laughter be turned to grief and your mirth to dejection
and heartfelt shame [for your sins]. Humble yourselves [feeling very insignificant]
in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up and make
your lives significant].”
Prayer
Father
I thank You for Your Word. I repent of every way I have been courting and
loving the world and being Your enemy. Please forgive me Lord. I drawn near to
You and repent this day. In humility o Lord we receive Your grace and by the
power of the Spirit the grace to live a life above every evil tendency; a life
that gives you glory, in Jesus name I pray, amen.
