Virtue
Dearly Beloved, I trust this
finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. As we began to look at yesterday,
there are certain things that we as Christians need to develop in addition to
our faith. 2 Peter 1v5-9 (AMPC) says “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your
faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge
temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And
to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For
if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these
things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged
from his old sins.”
One of the most important
things Christians are asked to cultivate is virtue. Some translations refer to
it as goodness, excellence,
resolution, Christian energy. Synonyms for virtue include morality, honesty,
goodness, integrity, and good value. Acts 9v31 (AMPC) says “So the church throughout the whole of Judea
and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was edified [growing in wisdom, virtue,
and piety] and walking in the respect and reverential fear of
the Lord and in the consolation and exhortation of the Holy
Spirit, continued to increase and was multiplied.” Proverbs 31 for
example speaks of the virtuous woman who does good to her husband all the days
of her life. She is hardworking and spiritual. Child of God, the Bible exhorts
us to apply all diligence to grow in virtue. Let us pay attention, be
conscientious, be thorough and persistent in growing in virtue. Do good deeds. Imbibe
good values and excellence.
Prayer
Father, we thank You for You
want us to grow in virtue. We pray that we will apply every effort and diligence
to do so in Jesus name, amen. Help us by Your Spirit in this endeavor in Jesus
name, amen.
