You have not, because you ask not (2)

Dearly beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for another week He has given to us. We continue looking at James 4v2 (NCV) which says “… You do not get what you want, because you do not ask God.” I am grateful to God that we can go to Him and He wants us to come to Him with any care, problem or request we might have. Child of God, go to God always – not to any man or anything. Psalm 147v10-11 (NCV) says “He is not impressed with the strength of a horse or with human might. The Lord is pleased with those who respect him, with those who trust his love.” In other words, go to God.

2 Chronicles 16 tells us of King Asa of Judah, who trusted in God over and over, and then decided to go elsewhere for help. God wasn’t pleased with this. 2 Chronicles 16v7-13 (NIV) says “At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand. For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” Asa was angry with the seer because of this; he was so enraged that he put him in prison. At the same time Asa brutally oppressed some of the people. The events of Asa’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians. Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors.”

Prayer
Dear God, I thank You for You are our God, our Saviour, our Lord, our Master, and the Lover of our souls. Forgive us for times when we looked elsewhere for help outside of You. Forgive us for times we didn’t trust in Your wisdom, goodness and power. We look to You today, knowing that You are good and Your mercies endure forevermore. We trust You to take care of us and our needs, and send help to us. Blessed be Your name forevermore, in Jesus name, amen.
