Pray

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for the body of Christ, and how everyone in the body is important. But at different points in times, we go through tribulations, and trials, things that test our faith in the Lord. And so it’s important to lift each other up in prayer, that our faith doesn’t fail. We see how the Apostle Paul spoke of a particular person who prayed for some other brethren.

Primary Text: Colossians 4v12
“Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” Colossians 4v12 (KJV)

“Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. [He is] always striving for you earnestly in his prayers, [pleading] that you may [as persons of ripe character and clear conviction] stand firm and mature [in spiritual growth], convinced and fully assured in everything willed by God.” Colossians 4v12 (AMP)

“Epaphras, a member of your own fellowship and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings. He always prays earnestly for you, asking God to make you strong and perfect, fully confident that you are following the whole will of God.” Colossians 4v12 (NLT)

“Epaphras, a servant of Jesus Christ, from your group, also greets you. He always prays for you that you will grow to be spiritually mature and have everything God wants for you.” Colossians 4v12 (NCV)

Epaphras is mentioned 3 times in the Bible. Apart from being “one of you, a servant of Christ” (Colossians 4v12), he is also referred to as “Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit” (Colossians 1v7-8), and “Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus” (Philemon 1v23). But it seems he was one of the Colossians. That said, Epaphras was fervent in praying for the Colossians, that they will “grow to be spiritually mature and have everything God wants for” them (Colossians 4v12). We are also members of a particular body, at different scales for example a fellowship, a city, a country, and overall, the body of Christ in the whole world. We can pray for one another that God strengthens and encourages and keep us firm and in the faith. In addition to prayer, we also meet and share the needs of fellow believers and brethren in more practical ways. For instance, we see in Isaiah 58v7 that a fast that glorifies God includes to: “Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help” (NLT). Hallelujah. We see below an example of how we can pray for other believers.

Supplementary Text:
“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to His people who live in the light.” Colossians 1v9-12 (NLT)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for this day and for Your Word. We pray that You will grant unto us the Spirit of grace and supplication, of kindness and mercy, and unlimited favor, with deep compassion to uphold fellow believers and meet the needs of those around us in Jesus name, amen. Use us for Your glory O Lord in Jesus name, amen.
