Understanding

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. The Bible tells us that those that know their God are strong and do exploits (Daniel 11v32). How well do you know God? The disciples had spent time with the Lord, walking with Him and learning from Him. However, we see in Luke 24, after Jesus had died, and rose again after three days, and His tomb had been found to be empty, that the Bible records that:

Primary Text: Luke 24v36-48
“And as they thus spake, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And He said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have. And when He had thus spoken, He shewed them His hands and His feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And He took it, and did eat before them. And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me. Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.” Luke 24v36-48 (KJV)

The Bible says here, that Jesus opened their understanding that they might understand the scripture. Earlier in the chapter, we see how Jesus met with two men who were on the way to Emmaus, who were speaking of the things that had happened with regards to Jesus. “And He said to them, What is this discussion that you are exchanging (throwing back and forth) between yourselves as you walk along? And they stood still, looking sad and downcast” (Luke 24v17). After after they had told Jesus about what they were discussing, the Bible records that “Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke 24v25-27). Sometimes, we also need understanding and an expounding of the scripture so we can understand what is happening, and why what happened, happened. We need an expounding ot scripture to bring us peace and dispel sorrow and fear. The Spirit of Truth has been given to us, to guide us into all truth (John 16v13). We can ask God for understanding of His Word, and to know Him more.

Supplementary Text:
“Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.” Psalm 119v18 (KJV)

“I have still many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them or to take them upon you or to grasp them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth (The Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you. Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He [the Spirit] will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you” John 16v12-15 (AMP)

“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength,.” Ephesians 1v17-19 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. Father, we pray that You may grant unto us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. We want to know You more. We ask too that our hearts will be flooded with light so that we can understand the confident hope You have given to those You called – Your holy people who are Your rich and glorious inheritance, in Jesus name, amen.
