Wisdom (4)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His great grace on us, and how we can go to Him for wisdom when we are in want of it. We see in the case of Daniel, how he asked his friends to join him in asking God for mercy concerning the secret. This secret being king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream – what it was and the interpretation of it. For the king had a dream, and wanted the “astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans” (Daniel 2v2) to show it to him. When they couldn’t, he ordered that all the wise men be killed. And the Bible records that:
Primary Text: Daniel 2v14-23
“Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His: And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with Him. I thank Thee, and praise Thee, O Thou God of my Fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of Thee: for Thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.” Daniel 2v14-23 (KJV)
“When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, came to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion. He asked Arioch, “Why has the king issued such a harsh decree?” So Arioch told him all that had happened. Daniel went at once to see the king and requested more time to tell the king what the dream meant. Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened. He urged them to ask the God of heaven to show them His mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wise men of Babylon. That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven. He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for He has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; He removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though He is surrounded by light. I thank and praise You, God of my ancestors, for You have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of You and revealed to us what the king demanded.” Daniel 2v14-23 (NLT)
Sometimes we may be faced with an outrightly impossible feat. Something that is practically impossible for anyone to know, or perhaps be able to figure out within the time frame that is given. But we bless God because we serve a living God who is all-knowing, all-mighty, all-aware of everything, even the thoughts, dreams and imaginations of every heart – spoken and unspoken. Nothing escapes His notice! He is the One who gives “wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” Is there something baffling you today? The Lord says: “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand)” (Jeremiah 33v3, AMP).
Supplementary Text:
“The king said to Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar), “Is this true? Can you tell me what my dream was and what it means?” Daniel replied, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed. “While Your Majesty was sleeping, you dreamed about coming events. He who reveals secrets has shown you what is going to happen. And it is not because I am wiser than anyone else that I know the secret of your dream, but because God wants you to understands what was in your heart.” Daniel 2v26-29 (NLT).
