Practice

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. As believers, we can be compared to soldiers as Paul told Timothy “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2v3, KJV), and “Fight the good fight of faith… (1 Timothy 6v12, KJV). In Ephesians 6v11 (KJV) we are also told “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”. We can also be likened to athletes (1 Corinthians 9v25) who must strive lawfully. One thing we know about these two categories of people are that they train hard, in order to be victorious. Sometimes they are taught, or trained, and then have to put into practice what they have heard. As Christians, we need to practice what we have learned, and heard. The Apostle Paul, writing to the Church in Philippi says:

Primary Text: Philippians 4v9
“Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” Philippians 4v9 (KJV)

“Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.” Philippians 4v9 (AMP)

“Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me – everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4v9 (NLT)

“Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into His most excellent harmonies.” Philippians 4v9 (MSG)

What you have learned. What you have heard. What you have seen. It is easy to learn, hear, and see what is happening in the world around us and give into that. But looking into the Scripture, we will see what Paul was saying the Church had learned, heard, and seen him do, and they should do that.

Supplementary Text:
“All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.” 1 Corinthians 9v25 (NLT)

“I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9v27 (NLT)

“Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.” 2 Timothy 2v3-5 (NLT)

“But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror; For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like. But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgers but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).” James 1v22-25 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. Father, the grace to endure hardness, and to be disciplined, please grant unto us in Jesus name, amen. We submit to Your Word, Your Spirit and Your tutelage in Jesus name we pray, amen.
