A Clothing

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Colossians 3v12 tells us we are elected of God, made holy and beloved of God! We should:

Primary Text: Colossians 3v12
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;” Colossians 3v12 (KJV)

“Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3v12 (NLT)

“Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes with good temper].” Colossians 3v12 (AMP)

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline.” Colossians 3v12 (NLT)

We catch a glimpse of the opposite of this sort of clothing, earlier on in the chapter (see below), but we are to put on this “new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him” (Colossians 3v10, NLT). How do we live this wonderful and victorious Christian life? We do it by yielding to the Spirit of God. Again, the Bible tells us “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.” Galatians 5v24-26 (NLT)

Supplementary Text:
“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshipping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds” Colossians 3v5-9 (NLT)

“For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit. Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. [That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed it cannot. So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him. But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God].” Romans 8v5-9 (AMP)

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for this day. Holy Spirit of God, I yield to Your leading and direction in every area of my life in Jesus name, amen. I thank You for the love of God that is shed abroad in my heart by the Spirit of God. O God, I pray that You will sanctify me wholly – spirit, soul and body, in Jesus name, amen. Purge me of every thought and practice that is not of You in Jesus name, amen. Holy Spirit of God, I yield to You in Jesus name, amen.
