A Position of Leadership
27 July 2009 – A Position of Leadership
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord and that you had a very blessed weekend. What kind of leader are you? From the time we are young, at some point or the other, we are usually put in a position of leadership, perhaps through natural birth i.e. being the first born in a family or by age; by election – as some have been prefects, class captains, group study leaders, team captains, “noise-maker” list writers; of necessity – due to an event that needs to be done, e.t.c. In all these things, what sort of leader are you? An encourager, a motivator, one who spurs people on ... One thing you must remember as a leader, is that your actions matter a lot.
One definition of the word “lead” is: to guide in direction, course, action, opinion e.t.c. (www.dictionary.com). What direction are you guiding people in?
When Nehemiah went back to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the wall started, in addition to opposition from their enemies, at some point, the leaders of the people arose also to bring forth some complaints. The Bible records that:
“And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.” Nehemiah 4v10 (KJV)
“And [the leaders of] Judah said, The strength of the burden bearers is weakening, and there is much rubbish; we are not able to work on the wall.” Nehemiah 4v10 (Amplified Bible)
“Then the people of Judah began to complain, “The workers are getting tired, and there is so much rubble to be moved. We will never be able to build the wall by ourselves.” Nehemiah 4v10 (New Living Translation)
If the leaders are complaining like this, what do you expect the other people to do. Note also that one can become a leader when you continuously stick with something and guide others to do the same. For instance, that’s how leaders of revolts often start off. So be very careful who or what ideas or opinions you are following. Are they for God or not? Also be very careful what ideas you promote, look at it on a big scale, it could start off as something small, and before you know it become much bigger than you thought it would ever be. Another verse for thought is in Isaiah 9v16 which says:
“For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” Isaiah 9v16 (KJV)
“For the leaders of the people have misled them. They have led them down the path of destruction.” Isaiah 9v16 (New Living Translation).
Have a very blessed day.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a leader that will guide people in Your ways in Jesus name, amen. Help me to always follow the guidance of Your Spirit in me, and with me, that I might truly act as Your child even now and forevermore in Jesus name, amen.
