Where are you looking? (3)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His mercy, and His love for us. Again we pose the question where are you looking for approval, for commendation, to know if you are still on the right part? For these things, one place to certainly not look is to others. The Bible says in:

“Not that we [have the audacity to] venture to class or [even to] compare ourselves with some who exalt and furnish testimonials for themselves! However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely.” 2 Corinthians 10v12 (Amplified Bible).

“Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!.” 2 Corinthians 10v12 (New Living Translation).

Some synonyms for “compare” include: evaluate, contrast, measure up to, match up to, weigh against, put side by side, balance, and judge. The Bible here is telling us that it is ignorant and unwise to compare yourself to others, using them as your evaluation board. For instance one can say, at least I am not as bad as this person, or I am praying more than this person. Wrong, wrong, wrong! Remember the Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 10v18 that:

“For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.”

By the time you compare yourself to others, then you part yourself, and say very well. I have done well. But know it is not your commendation that gets your approval, but the Lord’s. The only infallible standard we can use is the Lord, and what He wants. So if you have been comparing yourself with others, please stop, and let the Lord be your justifier. In the same vein, do not let others put you down by comparing you to themselves. To the Lord are we answerable.

Have a very blessed day.

Prayer:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” In Jesus name, amen. (Psalm 139v23-24, New Living Translation)
We thank You Lord because of Your Word that says:
“Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one – for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself. Who then will condemn us? No one – for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” Romans 8v33-34 (New Living Translation)
