No Assumptions!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His grace, and mercy and how He watches over us and grants us peace.
When we need favour from a person, how do we go about it? Now, Nehemiah was in a position, as the king’s cupbearer, where he saw the king very often. For instance, as often as the king wanted to drink a cup of wine, and perhaps in his more leisurely moments. In the Dakes concordance, it was written that the cupbearer got to see the king at times when he was quite merry. Now a word came to Nehemiah while he was in the palace in Shushan, which made him quite distraught. It was news about the deplorable state of things in Jerusalem. Now the one person who could grant him the permission to go and make a difference (humanely speaking) at that point, was the king. After Nehemiah had cried, and prayed, and fasted before the God of heaven, he added the prayer we see below:
“O Lord, I beseech Thee, let now Thine ear be attentive to the prayer of Thy servant, and to the prayer of Thy servants, who desire to fear Thy name: and prosper, I pray Thee, Thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.” (Nehemiah 1v11)
What lesson can we draw from here? Nehemiah (like Esther) did not presume familiarity with the king(s) before they presented their requests before them. Nehemiah did not say, I know what amount of wine he should have had for me to ask the question, or assume that the fact that he lived in the palace would give him some leverage. No, he presented the matter before God before the king got involved. Some of us might believe we know someone very well, or we have served them very faithfully, and so they would be very much inclined to help us. Remember favour from God is what creates unimaginable miracles to occur. Perhaps there is something you want, or need, and want to present it before somebody, do as Nehemiah did and pray to the God of heaven. Table the request before Him first. That way, you can be sure that He would provide the right opportunity, ambience and would grant you favour for your endeavours. Don’t be hasty to make your request before man, bring it before God first. Make no assumptions.
Have a very blessed day.
Dearest Heavenly Father,
We thank You so much for Your grace upon our lives. We thank You for Your mercy, love and favour. We thank You for Your Word today o Lord. Father we pray that for every situation where we have not put You first, or not tabled the matter before You and went on to look for the favour of man, that You would forgive us. We pray that we would always remember to seek Your face and Your way in every matter that we have to do, and that Your Name will be glorified in all that we do in Jesus name, amen. We pray O Lord that You would grant us continued favour in Your sight, and in the eyes of man, in Jesus mighty name we pray with thanksgiving, amen.
