A Certain Kind of quickness!

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. In Revelations, the Bible says, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Revelations 2v29 (KJV).

Primary Text:
“Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. For man’s anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires].” James 1v19-20 (AMP)

A ready listener, needs patience. To be willing to listen to another person’s side of the story, or what they have to say, without necessarily jumping in, and interrupting or giving our own opinion. Allowing others to give an explanation, before you give your views. The Bible says: “Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.” Proverbs 18v13. Let’s learn to be ready listeners. Ecclesiastes 3v7 speaks of a time to be quiet. The Psalmist says – “God has spoken once, twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God.” (Psalm 62v11). I think it is also good to take time to listen not only to those around us, but also to God. To be quick to hear what He is saying. David was someone who took time to enquire of God, and when he wasn’t certain about the direction to go, he enquired of God again. God is a good listener. He is someone we can pour out our hearts to. Psalm 62v8. “A wise man will hear and … “ Let us aspire to be quick and good listeners.

Supplementary Text
“Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors. Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.”1 Samuel 23v1-5 (KJV)

Prayer
