On Prayer
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. The Word of the Lord says:
Primary Text:
“For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].” Mark 11v24 (AMP)
In C.S Lewis’ book, The Screwtape Letters, which is set up as a demon writing to another demon, in one of the letters, the demon writes: “Teach them to estimate the value of each prayer by their success in producing the desired feeling; and never let them suspect how much success or failure of that kind depends on whether they are well or ill, fresh or tired, at the moment.” (Letter 4). But the Word of God says, when we pray, we should believe that it is granted to us, and we will get it. We need to know how God relates with His children and what He says to us about basic issues such as prayer, faith, love e.t.c. For instance, the Word says we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched by the feelings of our infirmities, but we have one who was at all points tempted even as we are, therefore we should come boldly before the throne of grace where we can obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4v15-16). In periods of temptation, we may feel weak, guilty, defensive, unclean… but the Word says to come to the throne of grace, that God understands. We do not have to base what we do on our feelings, but in trusting in God and His Word. The same thing with prayer, the Word says the eyes of the Lord is on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry (Psalm 34v15; 1 Peter 3v12). When you pray, according to the will of God, know that He hears you and that if He hears you, you have what you asked of Him. That is the confidence that we have in Him (1 John 5v14&15). Base your prayers and how you pray on the truth of God, and His Word.
Supplementary Text:
“And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests we made of Him.” 1 John 5v14&15 (AMP)
Prayer
Father, we thank You for the privilege and opportunities we have to pray. May we indeed pray according to Your will, believe that You hear us and that we have those things which we asked of You in Jesus name, amen.
