Don’t be afraid of the lion’s den

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His amazing power, and His ability to take care of and save His own. Sometimes as believers, we go through very very very trying times – either at our place of work, within our families, relationships or otherwise. But we bless God that even through the fire, He says we will not be burned and the flames won’t kindle upon us” (Isaiah 43v2). Daniel was someone who was literally thrown into the lion’s den. The Bible tells us:

Primary Text:
“Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire. Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy. So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion. So the administrators and high officers when to the king and said, “Long live King Darius! We are all in agreement – we administrators, officials, high officers, advisers, and governors – that any person who prays to anyone, divine or human – except to you, Your Majesty – will be thrown into the den of lions. And now, Your Majesty, issue and sign this law so it cannot be changed, an official law of the Medes and Persians that cannot be revoked. So King Darius signed the law.” Daniel 6v3-9 (NLT)

Wow, what do you do when you are in a quandary of this sort? Stop being efficient or good at your work so you don’t receive negative attention? Stop serving God, at least for these 30 days, after all, “God understands” – we are talking of lion’s den here. What do you do when you are persecuted for righteousness sake? The Bible tells us we are blessed, and that great is our reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matthew 5v11-12). What do you do when you hear the law that has been passed? Though, it may be hard when we are going through the situation, the Bible says “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10v28). Trust God. Well, this is what Daniel did:

Supplementary Text:
“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help.” Daniel 6v10-11 (NLT)

Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word, and Your faithfulness to me. Grant me the courage to be faithful to You always, regardless of the threats around in Jesus name, amen.
