An ever-present Helper (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on
this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“May our Lord Jesus
Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting
comfort and hope, which we don’t deserve,” 2 Thessalonians 2v16 (TLB)
Indeed the Spirit of God has been given to believers
as another Comforter, and one thing He is to us is our Helper. The Spirit of
God helps us to live a victorious Christian life. One way He does this is it to
help us win the fight over sin and our flesh. Under the Old Testament, there
were a set of laws given, but man consistently fell short of fulfilling these
laws. Under the New Testament, God still demands righteousness, but we are made
righteous in His eyes through Christ Jesus and we are given the power, through
the Spirit of God to be able to say no to sin and to put the flesh under.
Romans 8v1 – 4(NIV) says “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who
are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who
gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was
powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His
own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He
condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law
might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according
to the Spirit.” The Living Bible version puts it this way “So now we can obey
God’s laws if we follow after the Holy Spirit and no longer obey the evil nature
within us. Those who let themselves be controlled by their lower natures live
only to please themselves, but those who follow after the Holy Spirit find
themselves doing those things that please God. Following after the Holy Spirit
leads to life and peace, but following after the old nature leads to death
because the old sinful nature within us is against God. It never did obey God’s
laws and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of
their old sinful nature, bent on following their old evil desires, can never
please God. But you are not like that. You are controlled by your new nature if
you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that if anyone doesn’t
have the Spirit of Christ living in him, he is not a Christian at all.)”
(Romans 8v4-8). Praise the Lord. Beloved, are you still allowing yourself to be
controlled by your old sinful nature? Let that end today and submit your whole
spirit, soul and body to the Holy Spirit – to be led by Him, and controlled by
Him, for there is life, peace and victory in that. On the other hand, perhaps
you do not even have the Spirit of God, that is the Spirit of Christ and are
therefore not a Christian at all. The Bible says:
“That if you confess with your mouth,
“Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are
saved.” Romans 10v9-10
You can say this prayer: Heavenly
Father, I come to You today, confessing that I am a sinner. I am sorry for all
that I have done and ask that You forgive me for all of my sins and cleanse me
from all unrighteousness. Lord Jesus, I ask that You be Lord and Saviour over
my life. I believe that You came to die for my sins, and that God raised You
from the dead. Thank You Father for translating me out of the kingdom of
darkness into the Kingdom of Your dear Son. Thank You for sealing me with Your
Holy Spirit of promise. Please keep me till the end in You, and may Your Name
alone be glorified in my life, in Jesus name I pray, amen.
If you said this prayer today, know
that you are now a child of God and that there is much jubilation in heaven
because of you. Begin to attend a Bible-believing church, and keep the faith!
Welcome into God’s family.
