El-Shaddai – God Almighty
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this
day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“There came a man sent
from God, whose name was John.” John 1v6 (AMP)
Not only do we see God
paying attention to the names of people, we find as well that He is conscious
about His own names, responds to them and reveals His character and nature to
people through His name. One of God’s names is “God Almighty”. This is the name
He revealed to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; Exodus 6v2-3 (KJV) saying “And God
spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto
Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty, but by My name
JEHOVAH was I not known to them” while Genesis 17v1 (KJV) says “And when Abram
was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I
am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be thou perfect.” What does this name
reveal to us about who God is? The Dakes concordance makes this commentary –
“Heb. El Shaddai, Almighty God. It is found 218 times. El signifies
Strong One and Shaddai, the Breasted One. This pictures God as the
Strong-Nourisher, Strength-Giver, Satisfier, and All-Bountiful, the Supplier of
the needs of His people. Its first occurrence here reveals God as the
Fruitful-One who was to multiply Abraham abundantly; the Life-Giver who was to
restore life to Abraham and Sarah who were as good as dead, as far as
off-spring was concerned. Through Him, they were to have future off-spring as
the dust (13:16), as the stars (15:5), and as the sand in number (22:17). Beloved,
our God is El-Shaddai, God Almighty, He is strong, mighty, able to bring about
multiplication, and to meet every single one of our needs. He is able to bring
life and victory to every and all situations.
Prayer
God Almighty, the One who
is more than enough for me, whose grace is sufficient for me, the Life-Giver,
the Game Changer I honour You. Father, please reveal Yourself to me as
El-Shaddai in Jesus name, amen.
