The Power to Witness
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this
day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“There came a man sent
from God, whose name was John. [Mal. 3:1.] This man came to witness, that he
might testify of the Light, that all men might believe in it [adhere to it,
trust it, and rely upon it] through him.” John 1v6-7 (AMP)
In order to carry out an
assignment, we need power/ability. To eat, we need some strength, however
little, to prepare the food, or even to put it into our mouths. In order to
witness of the goodness of the Lord and spread the good news, we also need
power. Our Lord Jesus Christ recognized this; Luke 24v44-49 (KJV) saying “And
He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet
with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of
Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms concerning Me. Then opened He
their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. And He said
unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to
rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And
ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of My Father
upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power
from on high.” And the disciples tarried for the power of God to come upon
them. Acts 1v8 (AMP) says “But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency,
and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My
witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very
bounds) of the earth.” We thank God for the power to witness that He gives to
us.
Prayer
Father we thank You for
the Gospel. We thank You for the ministry of reconciliation that we have. We
honour You because of Your Holy Spirit who empowers us to be witnesses. We pray
for a fresh filling of Your Spirit and boldness that we may be effective
witnesses to the glory and honour of Your name. This we pray in Jesus name,
amen.
