Either/Or
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His loving kindness and His faithfulness towards us. How He knows His own and is able to keep His own regardless of what situations occur. He is indeed the good Shepherd.
Children can be funny. Taking a walk down memory lane – it could be that you have a task to do before your parents came home, maybe washing the dishes, laying the bed, homework… Or something you should not be doing like watching tv, playing outside, … So perhaps you have not done what you are supposed to do, immediately you get wind of the fact that your parents are coming, maybe through the door bell, or one of you sees them, you rush to do those things (or stop doing what you are not supposed to do). Sometimes we get away with it. Other times, I have heard of parents touching the tv or the bonnet of the car, and feeling the warmth, know what the kids have been up to. Now, the coming of Jesus can be likened to a Master who has left his servants with some tasks to do. The only thing is that the master comes back suddenly and without warning. As a child, if you had no clue when your parents would come back, or your parents had an uncanning way of just popping up, won’t you have been smart enough to just be ready at all times? The Bible thus tells us that:
“The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return – in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for Him!” Mark 13v34-37 (New Living Translation).
“A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. But what of the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 24v45-51 (New Living Translation)
Beloved, we can either be faithful and sensible servants, or not. Please let us all watch and be on our guard.
Be blessed.
