Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God
for His goodness, His faithfulness, His patience, His holiness, and all that He
is to us. We thank God for the salvation of our souls, and for His Word which
helps us to grow.
Primary Text
“For
Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel:…” 1 Corinthians 1v17
(KJV)
Paul
continues his letter in verse 17 to the church in Corinth, after saying in 1
Corinthians 1v14-16 (NIV) that “I thank God that I did not baptize any of you
except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.
(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember
if I baptized anyone else.)” In essence, he expressed the fact that though he
baptized a few people, that was not what Christ had sent him to do. He was sent
to preach the gospel! Makes me wonder how many of us are doing things that we
have not been sent to do. What assignment has the Lord given you to do? What
does His Word say concerning you and what you should or should not do? Or is
there a specific assignment that you know God has called you to do? Are you
doing it or something else? When Paul noticed that people were bringing
divisions to the church and taking sides, he was clear about what he had been
sent to do – to preach the gospel not to baptize. Child of God, are you doing
what you have been sent to do? Do not get distracted! If you do not know what
the Lord will have you do, well Jeremiah 33v3 (KJV) “Call unto Me and I will
answer thee, and shew the great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” So,
go ahead and ask…
Supplementary Text
“For
Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – not with words of
human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message
of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1v17-18 (NIV)
Prayer
Father,
we thank You so much for Your Word and the gospel. We thank You because we are
Your workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which You have
prepared in advance for us to do. Father, help us to do all that You will have
us do and not be distracted by other works in Jesus name, amen.
