Utterance
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God
for His love, His compassion, His Word and His grace that He has extended
towards us.
Primary Text
“That
in every thing ye are enriched by Him, in all utterance, …” 1 Corinthians 1v5
(KJV)
“[So]
that in Him in every respect you were enriched, in full power and readiness of
speech [to speak of your faith] …” 1 Corinthians 1v5 (AMP)
Paul
continues his letter to the Corinthians thanking God for the grace they have
received in Christ, and acknowledging that they have been enriched by God in
all their utterance – their speech; this enrichment enabling them to speak of
their faith. Wow! Sharing of our faith, is one thing believers often find
difficult to do. What if they don’t listen to us? What if in this particular
setting it is frowned upon? And it is a legitimate enough fear that even Paul
asked that prayer be said for him in Ephesians 6v19-20 (AMP) which says “And
[pray] also for me, that [freedom of] utterance may be given me, that I may
open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel), For
which I am an ambassador in a coupling chain [in prison. Pray] that I may
declare it boldly and courageously, as I ought to do.” Despite the need for
boldness and freedom to preach the gospel, Paul also recognized the necessity
laid upon him to do so, saying in 1 Corinthians 9v16 (NLT) “Yet preaching the
Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it.
How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!” Beloved, instead of
acknowledging every possible fear and challenge associated with preaching the
gospel, why not pray and ask God for freedom and boldness and opportunity to do
so? In Acts 4, we see how the believers also prayed for freedom to declare
God’s message fearlessly after Peter and John had returned to them, after being
persecuted because of the gospel, and after they had healed the lame man at the
gate called Beautiful (Acts 3). The Bible says:
Supplementary Text
“And
when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and
they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of
God with freedom and boldness and courage.” Acts 4v31 (AMP)
Prayer
Father,
we thank You for Your Word, and the Gospel. Father we pray today that we would
be given freedom of utterance to declare the Word of God with boldness and with
courage. Please fill us with Your Spirit to do this even to the glory of Your
name, in Jesus name, amen.
