Learning from the past

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10v13 (KJV)

This verse of scripture gives us encouragement on various levels. One of which is that it tells you that whatever temptation may come your way, it is common to man, and has happened before. You do not have a situation where you think oh no, what shall I do, nobody in the world knows what I am going through. Ecclesiastes 1v9&10 (NLT) says “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually is old; nothing is ever truly new.” And so because these things are not new, it is a blessing and a comfort to the believer to say, how did the men and women of faith respond in time past, how would God have me respond, what would glorify God in this situation. Even now in life, things continue to happen all around us that we can learn from. The live and journey of the Israelites for example teach us certain things, 1 Corinthians 10v11 (NLT) saying “These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.” The Holy Spirit is here and is our Teacher, may He give us deep insight into the Word of God that we may know how to learn and apply wisdom to each situation that comes our way.

Supplementary Text
“Sensible people keep their eyes glued on wisdom, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.” Proverbs 17v24 (NLT)

Prayer
Our heavenly Father we thank You for Your Word. We thank You for wisdom which is all around us, and the ability to learn from the Scripture and even from life. We pray that indeed for each situation in life You will bring to our remembrance the fact that this is not common, and show us the appropriate way to go about it. This we pray with thanksgiving in Jesus name, amen.
