Is this helpful?
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“All
things are legitimate [permissible – and we are free to do anything we please],
but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All
things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and
edifying [to spiritual life].” 1 Corinthians 10v23 (AMP)
Over
the years, society has come up with rules, regulations, customs, standards of
acceptable conduct that guide human interactions. In other words boundaries are
put up to ensure that we all live together in harmony. When people act outside
of acceptable codes of conduct, conflict and chaos might ensue. As believers,
the verse above says while we may be do anything we please, not everything is
expedient, or profitable, constructive or edifying to spiritual life. If you
pause, you might be able to think about some of these things. Some of the things
we do, say, watch, are involved in, they might be legitimate, but are they
helpful? Are they profitable? Are they edifying to your spiritual life? For
example, the words you are speaking, are they words of grace that edify those
that hear you? One thing we know though is that God’s way of doing things is
always right. The Psalmist said “Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the
road for me to follow. Lead me by Your truth and teach me, for You are the God
who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You” (Psalm 25v4-5, NLT).
Supplementary Text
“Look
carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not
as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making
the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are
evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding
and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with
wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy]
Spirit. Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering
praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to
the Lord, At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ to God the Father. Be subject to one another out of reverence for
Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).” Ephesians 6v21 (AMP)
Prayer
Father,
we thank You for Your Word. May we be doers of it and not hearers only in Jesus
name, amen.
