A good rest!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I
hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Ye are all the children of light,
and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For
they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the
night.” 1 Thessalonians 5v5-7 (KJV)
I thank God for the gift of sleep.
Sleeping helps us to reenergize ourselves, to rest, and sometimes when things
seem bad or confusing, after a good rest, it seems to be better. We thank God
because He gives His beloved sleep. David said – “I laid me down and slept, I
awaked; because the LORD sustained me” (Psalm 3v4, KJV). But a lot of people today are not able
to sleep well, or get good rest; and this is for many reasons. Sometimes there
are many cares, worries, concerns, that are keeping them awake or health
conditions. But David was a man who saw a loooooot of trouble, yet He
recognized that God was in charge. 1 Thessalonians 4v11 speaks of making it
one’s ambition to live a quiet life. Quietness we saw means a place of rest and
security in God. Worrying is not going to solve the matter. Psalm 127v3 (KJV)
saying “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for
you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so He
giveth His beloved sleep.” Are you a child of God? This promise is for you.
Take it all to Him in prayer and let His peace guard your heart and mind
(Philippians 4v6-7). Enjoy and bask in His rest.
But there is a category of people
(the wicked) to whom rest in not promised. Isaiah 57v20-21 (KJV) says “But the
wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up
mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” While there are
different characteristics of the wicked – being proud, persecuting the poor,
boastful, one thing we see in Psalm 10v4 (KJV) is “The wicked, through the
pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his
thoughts.” Are you a wicked person? Have you been living life as though there
was no God, not caring what He thought or thinks, likes or dislikes? You need
to make peace with God. Because He is real, He is alive, and His Son Jesus is
coming back for His people. To enjoy peace on earth, and enjoy life everlasting
you need to make peace with God.
Prayer
Father, we thank You because You give
Your beloved sleep. We pray that we would learn to put our complete trust in
You, rest in You and enjoy the sleep You give Your children. For those who have
been wicked, we ask for mercy today (you can speak to Him to forgive you,
accept you, and that you want to have (or renew) your relationship with Him
through Jesus Christ).
