Quietness

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“And that ye study to be quiet, …” 1 Thessalonians 4v11 (KJV)
“This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, …” 1 Thessalonians 4v11 (TLB)
“Stay calm, …” 1 Thessalonians 4v11 (MSG)
“To make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully,…” 1 Thessalonians 4v11 (AMP)

Quiet could mean – calm, peaceful and subtle. It’s interesting that the Bible would highlight this as an ambition that we should pursue. 1 Peter 3v3-4 (AMB) talks of the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit being of great price in the sight of God. Speaking to women, and contextualizing it, it says “Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with [elaborate] interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes; But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.” Beloved, what is the state of your inner man? What is it seeking for? What are its ambitions? Is it resting in the Lord? Is it fretting against Him? Is it seeking to lead a quiet life – a life of calm, peace and trust in the Lord?

Supplementary Text
“For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says: Only in returning to Me and waiting for Me will you be saved; in quietness and confidence is your strength; but you’ll have none of this. “No,” you say. “We will get our help from Egypt; they will give us swift horses for riding to battle.” But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! One of them will chase a thousand of you! Five of them will scatter you until not two of you are left together. You will be like lonely trees on the distant mountaintops. Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to Him so He can show you His love; He will conquer you to bless you, just as He said. For the Lord is faithful to His promises. Blessed are all those who wait for Him to help them.” Isaiah 30v15-18 (AMP)

Prayer

Father, we thank You so much for Your goodness and love. Thank You for the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit which in Your sight is of great price. We rest on You and trust in You and ask for the grace to live quiet and peaceful lives in Jesus name, amen.
