No spiritual slumbering!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I
hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Ye are all the children of light,
and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For
they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the
night.” 1 Thessalonians 5v5-7 (KJV)
While the human body needs sleep, spiritual
slumber and sleep is something we as believers should not do. Using the analogy
of sleep, there are some who are heavy sleepers and can hardly be awakened by
anything. It takes a long time to rouse them up. Some are sensitive sleepers
where even the tiniest noise will get their attention. Spiritual slumber is a
condition whereby a believer is no longer alert or on their guard. 1
Thessalonians 5v6 (AMP) tells us “Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the
rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our
guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect).” Let us be aware
of: the times we live in; the devil who is our adversary seeking whom he may
devour; and our faith, constantly checking ourselves to see if we are still in
the faith and in the will of God. Let us be on our guard and be cautious. Let
us refuse to be discouraged from this Christian work, but be alert, sober,
prayerful, aware of the presence and power of God, and jealously guard our
relationship with Him that we may be found in Him at His appearance. Sometimes
sleep might catch up on us unawares, be careful to know if you are already
succumbing to sleep. Perhaps you have become lukewarm, neither hot or cold; or
you have begun to think like some do that is Christ really coming back; or you
have begun to call evil good and good evil. Take heed beloved - let His coming
not catch you unawares.
Supplementary Text
“Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed
[my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my
presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to
the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and
trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience,
watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend
God and discredit the name of Christ). [Not in your own strength] for it is God
Who is all the while effectually at work in creating in you the power and
desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and
delight.” Philippians 2v12-13 (AMP)
Prayer
Father I thank You for Your Word.
Father please arouse me from every spiritual slumber, heal any backsliding, and
make me on fire for You again in Jesus name, amen.
